The Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw invites students to participate in an intensive, international course dedicated to the applications of artificial intelligence in business and finance. The programme is designed for BA and MA students, long-cycle Master’s students, and doctoral candidates interested in modern methods of data analysis, machine learning, and the use of AI in economic and business environments.
The course is delivered in a hybrid format: it includes an asynchronous online preparatory module and a two‑week summer school in Warsaw, taught by experts from the University of Warsaw and the University of Sussex. The classes are interdisciplinary and combine lectures, workshops, and project‑based learning, enabling participants to develop practical analytical and technological skills.
Course Format
The programme consists of two complementary components:
- Module 0 (online) – Completed before arrival in Warsaw, it covers the basics of programming in Python and R. It includes video materials, practical assignments, and tests designed to equalize the technical skill level of all participants.
- On‑site component (Warsaw) – Intensive classes delivered in the form of lectures, workshops, and analytical exercises. Each day focuses on a different area of AI applications: from large language models, through financial and investment data analysis, to model interpretability and spatial data. The format encourages discussion, questions, and hands‑on work with real datasets.
Main Assumptions and Course Topics
The course covers key issues in artificial intelligence and data analysis in economic and financial contexts, including:
- foundations and mechanisms of modern AI and machine learning models,
- advanced programming in Python and R,
- large language models and text data analysis,
- applications of AI in finance, investments, and risk assessment,
- spatial and geolocation data analysis,
- interpretability and explainability of models (XAI),
- business process automation and project management with AI tools,
- ethical and regulatory aspects of artificial intelligence (including the EU AI Act).
Classes are taught by specialists representing various disciplines: economics, finance, data science, computer science, management, and technology law.
Graduate Profile
Upon completing the course, participants possess advanced knowledge of AI applications in business and finance. They understand how machine learning models operate, can prepare data, build predictive models, evaluate their performance, and interpret results. They are proficient in Python and R, familiar with analytical tools used by modern data scientists, and able to apply them in practice.
Graduates can analyse financial, investment, and spatial data, use large language models for automation tasks, and assess risks associated with implementing AI in organizations. They understand the ethical and regulatory dimensions of artificial intelligence and can act responsibly. They are prepared to work in international, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environments.
Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course, participants must:
- complete the online module and pass all section tests,
- attend at least 80% of on‑site classes,
- pass final tests for each module,
- actively participate in workshops and exercises.
Participants who meet all requirements will receive a micro‑credential issued by the University of Warsaw, confirming the achieved learning outcomes.
Course Schedule
The course includes approximately 60 hours of on‑site classes delivered over 14 days. Classes take place in June and July 2026 across three parallel editions:
- Edition I: 25 May to 7 June 2026 (online) and 8 to 21 June 2026 (on‑site), summer semester 2025/2026, 4 weeks
